Essential Oil Tick Spray
Repel Ticks Naturally
- Made with rose geranium and cedar essential oils.
- Safe and effective for people and dogs.
We enjoy spending time outdoors and have concerns about tick-borne diseases, as well as the potential long term neurological effects of the so-called "safe to use" pesticides, including DEET.
Research about natural ways to keep ticks off of us and our dog(s) led us to essential oils of course! Top on the list of essential oils that are known to repel ticks (and other insects) are Rose Geranium and Cedarwood. Not only do ticks dislike the strong scent of these plant based oils, but they actually prevent the ticks from detecting your presence by blocking your human scent.
An essential oil spray is a great way to protect your family without exposure to any harmful chemicals. We do use this spray on our dog, but we always recommend that you check with your veterinarian before applying to your dog; especially if your dog has allergies, or sensitive skin. You might want to try spraying a small amount on a napkin or washcloth to lightly coat your dog at first to see if there is any sort of reaction. We do NOT recommend this, or any essential oils for use on cats; they are very sensitive to many essential oils, and do not metabolize them well.
An essential oil tick spray should be combined with other preventative measures including: wearing proper clothing, avoiding brushy areas with tall grass and leaves, and you should also bathe or shower as soon as possible after coming indoors and conduct a full body tick check w/mirror. You don't need to worry about your clothing. Just wash it with hot water, and/or in the dryer on high heat to kill any remaining ticks.
