Natural deodorants work by keeping you smelling fresh. They are not antiperspirants; they will not stop you from sweating. Most antiperspirants work by temporarily plugging your sweat ducts with an aluminum based compound. This is what makes antiperspirants different from deodorants. There can be a transition period for some that may be a couple of days or maybe weeks until your body adjusts to using any natural deodorant.
In our testing, we have found several deodorants that are effective at making you smell fresh, some last longer than others. Often times the ingredients in them have eventually lead to underarm skin irritation by the time you get to the bottom of the stick/container. We also don't use baking soda in our deodorants. It would be an effective addition, but it tends to be irritating to some people.
Our charcoal based deodorants are very mild, and we think suitable for the most sensitive of skin types. They do utilize activated charcoal, which is excellent at absorbing oils and scents, which it is why it is often used in air/water filters. We also only use essential oils as a scent to keep you smelling fresh, some of them have properties that actually improve the effectiveness of a deodorant beyond just covering up the smell.
Because our charcoal based deodorants are oil based recipes, we do not need to add any preservatives, and consider them to be all natural.
