Therapeutic Grade Essential Oils?
I am often asked if our essential oils are therapeutic grade. This term is often used to describe essential oils with the intent to differentiate pure, high quality essential oils from others of lesser quality or that may be diluted. The problem is, there is no regulation for the term “therapeutic grade” and for that reason it is meaningless. No government agency or generally accepted organization “grades” or “certifies” essential oils as “therapeutic grade”, “medicinal grade”, or “aromatherapy grade” in the United States. Anyone can put those words on their essential oil label that may or may not even be 100% pure essential oils. This terminology has been adopted by many as a clever marketing term in an attempt to differentiate their company from the many others who sell essential oils. It’s important to keep in mind that there are NO companies out there selling “non-therapeutic grade” or some “grade” lower than A, this is unheard of; that said you can be sure not all essential oils out there on the market are of the same quality. Unfortunately, the companies that most know about and trust are pyramid marketing companies, and as such, they are very expensive. These companies may have a good quality product, but every sale has to pay several people. In the end the actual cost of the product is many times less than what the consumer pays.
We are always truthful and transparent with our product labels, and would never mislead our consumers by making false claims to enhance our sales with terms that cannot be defined. We do purchase our essential oils from various bulk distributors by the pound, as we use them by the cupful in our recipes...which is why our soaps have a wonderfully strong scent that will last until the end of the bar. The scent of the soap is often the most expensive ingredient, and therefore it is a corner that is often cut to save cost...but not here! We work to create products using the best ingredients this world has to offer with our customers experience in mind, not the end price point. Because we purchase essential oils in such large quantities, we are able to pass the savings on to our customers.
Stay educated and be well!
